New Events Added to the UK Watersports Calendar

3 April 2026

We’ve just added 62 new events to the UK Watersports Events Calendar, taking the total to 381 events across the country. The new additions fill some significant gaps — particularly in the South West, Wales, Scotland, and the Lake District.

Here’s what’s new.

South West — 12 New Events

Cornwall and Devon are properly represented now. Highlights include:

  • RNLI Castle to Castle Swim — a 1.5km charity swim across Falmouth Harbour between Pendennis and St Mawes castles. Stunning setting, tidal challenge, and all proceeds support the RNLI.
  • RNLI Around the Mount Swim — another iconic Cornish charity swim around St Michael’s Mount.
  • ICF SUP World Cup, Torbay — international-level SUP racing comes to the Devon coast.
  • Bournemouth International Triathlon — a large-scale multi-sport event drawing competitors from across Europe.

The Welsh calendar has filled out nicely:

  • Welsh National Surfing Championships — Llantwit Major, 24 April
  • Menai Strait Swims — the famous strait crossing, now with mini and full distance options
  • Swimrun Gower — a growing swimrun format on one of the UK’s best coastlines

Scotland — 12 New Events

Scotland’s lochs and coastline deliver some of the most dramatic event settings in the UK:

  • Trossachs 10 Loch Challenge — swimming across 10 lochs, for the seriously committed
  • Go Swim series — open water swims at Loch Tay, Loch Lomond, and Loch Morlich
  • Scottish Women’s Paddle Symposium — a dedicated paddlesport event for women
  • Loch Ken Wild Swim Weekend — community wild swimming in Dumfries & Galloway

Lake District — Now on the Map

The Lake District was a noticeable gap in our calendar. Not any more:

  • Great North Swim — Windermere’s flagship open water event
  • Chillswim Windermere and Coniston End to End — long-distance lake swims
  • Dragon Boat Windermere — a festival-style dragon boat event
  • Ullswater Yacht Club regattas — dinghy sailing on one of the most beautiful lakes in England

What to Pack for Open Water Events

Many of the new additions are open water swims and multi-sport events. A swim float bag is essential — it keeps you visible to safety crews and gives you somewhere to stash your gear. For bankside kit, a dry bag protects your clothes and electronics from rain, splashes, and that inevitable damp grass.

If you’re heading to an event in Scotland or the Lake District, pack warm layers in a waterproof dry bag. Water temperatures in May and June range from 10-15C, and air temperatures can drop sharply after you’re out of the water.
